First shipment of sulfur removal tanker delivered by Guangzhou shipping international

On October 15, Guangzhou Shipping International signed the delivery of the 14000 ton LR II product crude oil tanker "TROM HILDE" which was constructed for the Danish TORM A/S Company.
The vessel, with a total length of 250 meters, a width of 44 meters and a depth of 21.5 meters, meets the latest requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) 2020 Sulfur Directive. It is the first environmentally friendly vessel constructed by Guangzhou Ship International with a desulfurization scrubber and the first vessel in the TORM fleet to install a desulfurization scrubber.
With the increasing demand for sulphide emissions from coasts, the global demand for sulphide emissions has been reduced from 4.5% to 3.5% in 2012 and to 0.5% in 2020. Since January 1, 2015, a 0.1% sulfur limit has been introduced in the four emission control zones designated by the IMO, including the ECA zones in the North Sea, the Baltic Sea, North America and the Caribbean.
Although the use of low sulfur diesel oil (MGO oil) can meet the sulfur emission limitation, the cost of MGO oil is 50%-60% higher than that of heavy oil, and the wet scrubbing desulfurization system for waste gas has become appropriate because of its obvious desulfurization effect (removal rate is higher than 90%) and the moderate or even efficient reduction of particulate emissions. First choice product.
The introduction of "sulfur restriction" is a challenge and an opportunity for shipbuilding enterprises. Who can take the lead in mastering and eating through the desulfurization system design, installation and debugging technology, it is bound to be able to lead in the market competition.
Guangzhou Ship International, which has always been favored by shipowners for providing personalized services, immediately docked with the owner of the 14000-ton LR II refined oil/crude oil tanker No. 4 after learning that the shipowner TORM wanted to install the desulfurization system on the ship, and decided to install the system on ships that had not planned to install the desulfurization system.
After discussing the system and layout with the shipowner's economy and several equipment manufacturers, it was decided to install the most complicated hybrid desulfurization system on the No. 4 of the 114,000 ton LR II refined oil/crude oil tanker.
During this period, Guangzhou Ship International Construction staff overcome a series of difficulties, such as insufficient space on board, long material procurement cycle, difficult construction operations, and successfully crossed a high ridge in front of everyone.
The vessel was named on August 28 and completed its first trial voyage at the time of naming, but the test results of the desulfurization unit were not satisfactory due to the high exhaust back pressure at the outlet of the equipment. After returning, the desulfurization system of the vessel needed to be modified twice after consulting with the manufacturer. In September 20th, the "TROM HILDE" wheel successfully opened the second trial voyage. In the two trial run, the sulphur plant is running perfectly.
